The first thing to know in an internet relationship is that you are *never sure* what this person is really like until you meet them face to face. No matter how much you trust someone, they could look different, be married, be older, be younger, be a different sex, you name it.
Quite a few people play on the internet as a way to "role play." Look at any new relationships on the net as a fun, but not serious, situation until you meet in person. It is very easy to be hurt by neglecting real life relationships in favor of an on line that turns out to be based on lies.
