Get Involved in a Cause
A great way to talk with someone is to be involved in something they love to talk about. If she really loves pets and rescuing pets, offer to do a petition for the local pet rescue shelter for their latest project. When you go to her to get her to sign the petition, you can explain what it's all about. Maybe she'd help you! Even if she doesn't, now you can stop in with updates for her when you see her in subsequent days, and she'll be interested in what you have to say.
