The whole time he stayed at my place a great deal, as he was still technically living at home with mom. He couldn't afford regular rent, having no savings, or even a bank account. Then, I found work, but had to move about 40 miles away to still get to work on time, and live reasonably near him. The job was at a huge pay cut, and I wasn't able to keep our relationship in the lifestyle to which he'd become accustomed, or even always meet my own bills.
