Visitor's Question:
My ex and I had been together a little over 3 years and broke up about a month and a half ago due to growing arguements and resentments. We were in a very serious relationship, already very close to family, and already planned marriage. Currently, we are roomates but have separate rooms. The living situation is truly difficult and we were basically ignoring eachother up until about a week ago. He knew I was going through some personal issues and he started talking to me and asking questions because he was concerned. While he was talking to me, he kept looking at me and telling me how much he wanted to kiss me, and he did, i tried backing away but I gave in- ultimately, we ended up holding eachother and talking about the old days in bed for hours and hours. During the night he had told me how much he misses me and how much he loves me and says how happy he feels at the moment--but, he also said how much harder this is going to be for him because--what he wants, according to him, is to be alone for awhile, and that it isnt even about meeting new people or anything and that he wants me to grow and that he will always love me and wants to be best friends. Earlier when i hinted that things were completely over, he told me that who knows what will happen with us in the future ---What I dont understand is...how can he still love me, and be in tears because he cannot be with me right now and yet still stay firm to wanting to alone---I dont know what to do...should i just act like i moved on and act like a great friend to him--I love him so much, i would die for him..i just want to be able to go back to the way things were when we were happy. I dont know how to act with him...what should i do?? Please help!

Our Suggestion:
Since you love him enough to die for him you should be able to do something a little less drastic.

That is, give him what he wants while making sure that he knows you still love him and want him back. He isn't ready to go back to the way things were right now. But, perhaps, he will change his mind with time as good friends.

This won't be easy for you to do, but is a reasonable thing to do.

Good luck! George
