Break-Up Blindside

Visitor's Question:
I am 24, and my (ex) b/f is 26. My b/f and I have been together for 6 years. We have our own problems, but they are usually small and we resolve them right away. we are good friends as well and people constantly tell us how much we compliment each other. Recently my b/f freaked out on me, and Im not really sure why. He started by asking me if I wanted a family. To which I replied "yes, someday" to which he tells me "well I don't!" this i know is a total lie, he talks about wanting to get married n have a family with me someday all the time. He then tells me he doesnt love me anymore and he is interested in this other girl (she's so not even close to his type, its not even funny. there is a snowballs chance in hell that anything would ever happen between them. I think he was just using her as a crappy scape goat), and i know thats a total lie too. He couldnt tell me a reason why he was even yelling at me, this was completely unprovoked! I guess I was blind sided. 6 yrs down the crapper! Ive moved out of his house and have been pretty much avoiding him like the black plague. I told him "I love you and I want to be with you, but if i cant have all of you, then i don't want any of you." We havent really talked in 2 weeks. I miss him terribly. I dont know what to do anymore. He wont give me anything to work with here. Its not like he went out n started some big adventure after we broke up like he made it sound. Our roomates tell me all he does is sit around the house n sulk. I think deep down he still loves me, but Im just so damned confused. Should I try to win him back? should I give him time and wait around like a sad lost puppy dog? should I forget about him? WHAT DO I DO?! AHHH!

Our Suggestion:
Six years is a large investment.

It seems worthwhile to keep the door open to a renewed relationship. Call him once a week just to see how he is doing, to let him know you care. Keep the call to 15 mins, be cheerful, and don't dwell on your relationship.

Sounds like he is miserable and could use a cheerful call from you.

Good luck! George
