Visitor's Question: ive really got a problem on my hands. im 15 and am a boarding student, and in one of my classes is this one girl i really love, but who's unfortunately a day student. im new to the school and i only see her around every other day, but we message on facebook a bit and we like a lot of the same things. I just cant seem to think of anything to talk to her about when we're together in person, and also i need some way to build up the courage to ask her if she'd like to do something together. could you please give me some advice on how to come up with things to talk about and how to invite her to an activity? Our Suggestion: I'll answer the last question first. How to build up the courage to ask her to do something. Step 1 is to find one or two things to do (#2 is in case she is busy for #1). Then practice in front of a mirror or somewhere where you have privacy. Practice this way: in your mind say one - two - three then outloud continue "You know, Christine, I'd like to go to the zoo and wonder if you'd like to go with me." Pracice that over and over until it is second nature. As far as things to talk about, I will give you a list, but the trick is to remember that you only need one topic per meeting. Take a pad of paper and write across the top of each page a major topic such as family, sports, friends, activities, music, cable, videos, movies, school, teachers, food, vacations. Then down the side of each page, write down specific questions like describe your parents, siblings, pets, grandparents. When you meet her have one topic ready to talk about.
