How can I get to know and/or find a woman of a highly unusual breed?Suggest AdviceDo you have some advice for this person? Visitor's Question: Hi. I am basically what you might call a "nerd" or a "geek", but I'm not in the LEAST interested in things like science-fiction, comic books about superheroes, video games, RPG's, and the like. My interest, instead, belongs in the music field. I've pretty much become convinced that because of the way I act (I often fumble in the ways of socialization, even though I like to socialize, and I'm also somewhat obsessive-compulsive when it comes to many things), that the only type of woman who could accept me for me would be one who is, herself, a "geek" with peculiar behavioral patterns and an obsessive manner of (self-made) "rituals" and/or talking. Am I wrong for thinking this? If I am, then what do you think would be the closest to a "geeky" girl for me to look for? If you're having trouble thinking of an answer for me, then maybe think somewhere along the lines of, perhaps, Natalie Portman's character in "Garden State", Ally Sheedy's character in "The Breakfast Club", or perhaps even the way Maggie Gylenhaal's character in "Stranger Than Fiction" turned out after Will Ferell's character got to know her better. Obviously I wouldn't date any of these people since they are fictional characters in movies, I'm just asking you to, maybe, come up with a simple description of what you think I might want based on what I've put down. Our Suggestion: A good way to find a match is to work on your interests/strengths. You said you are into the music field. Go with it. Find one or two male friends who are like you and build yourselves up into music "geeks." If you play an instrument, or sing, work hard at it and get yourself out there in the open. Girls love musicians, as you know. You have the right idea about the kind of girl you are seeking. A sensitive, slightly awkward until you know her, cute in her own way but not necessarily a classic beauty kind of girl. Someone who dresses the part and takes part in music related school activities. You should be ok with all this unless you are really shy with girls. If that's the case, then consider yourself normal and proceed from there. Girls know that guys can be shy and will understand it if you aren't polished socially. The main thing is to get out there and try. Choose three girls you are attracted to and start talking with them, in person or online. There are tons of girls looking for boyfriends (I hear from them every day) so jump into the pool :) Good luck! George --Your Friendly Advisors at RomanceClass.com
