How to approach getting information whether I'm just a Customer that he enjoys or if it's more than that?

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I have perused the extensive tips on this site, but am having trouble finding age-appropriate input.

Me: outwardly confident, smiley, friendly. inside? whimp. doctorate in quantitative field, rock star job.

Him: IT guy with a group that is contracted with my company (ie, may have policies against dating "customers" like me), very smiley, seemingly outgoing/confident, friendly.

We work in different buildings, so we can go weeks without bumping into each other.

We get along very well--a LOT of eye contact, laughing, and subtle displays of interest on both sides. We both get a little nervous around each other.

During the past few times he has come by to help me with IT stuff, he has started sharing more and more personal info (e.g., he doesn't have a girlfriend, although I failed to let him know that I was single in my response).

My question: How does one go about finding out tactfully, gently, and professionally, whether he is trigger-shy to ask me out, or if he or his company has rules against dating "customers," or if he just finds me to be a fun "customer"... His actions would indicate that he digs me, but how do I find out if it's a professional or personal line that he hasn't crossed yet?

I have never had to ask a guy out, but I think this guy is really special, and would consider throwing a friendly "hey, want to grab a drink after work on Friday" type of offer out there to him...if I knew the answers above. :)

You are right... despite your accomplishments and personaliy, you are a wimp :(

Stop asking all these impossible-to-answer questions and just ask him out.

If there is a company policy he will let you know. There seems to be a natural attractions so that shouldn't be a worry. You are using calculus to solve an arithmetic problem :)
