Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
We met at our school camp about 4 years ago. He then was probably the worst person I could ever imagine. He was so immature, he was always asking me "to marry him" just for fun, he once danced with me, but I knew it wasn't serious.

I quite forgot him, but last year, something weird happened inside me. In our school, there's an hour on the week (every Thursday), when everyone decides which activity to do. I happened to chose the same activity with him (playing in the school's music group), and when I entered the room I noticed for the first time that he was there. I was shocked, because for the past years I had a different view of how he was. It wasn't his appearance that had changed, it was his character. He seemed more kind, more conscious of my feelings.

Well, for a while nothing was unusual, but eventually I realised that I had fallen in love with him.

I think that describing my feelings would be useless, so I will go on talking about his behaviour towards me.

As I previously told you, we were both in the music group, and we both happened to be pianists. There was only one piano, so we had to sit next to each other. He was gentle to me, liked to give me advice on how to play some difficult parts, and he liked talking to me in person. But the strangest thing was that, on Thursdays, we couldn't stop talking and being kind to each other, but ,for the rest of the week, we rarely talked.

As he is a year older than me, after the summer passed, he had to leave our group and join the one for the older students. Since then, he seems farther from me. We do talk, but only when I start the conversation.

I told his younger brother about it, and he tried to help me. He mentioned my name to him (without revealing my feelings of course). My crush answered that he really really liked me, but only as a friend. After I heard that, I decided to give up on trying to make him love me, and try to become a good friend of him.

But what should I do? He really doesn't seem to like me at all, or he just doesn't show it. I would really like to have a friend like him, but how should I start without screwing it all up?

Our Suggestion:
The important thing is to start the friendship. You two obviously have some connection which explains why you got along so well while you were playing the piano.

It would be great if you could find a piano that wasn't being used in the afternoon so you and he could play piano together like before. Check out this possiblity. Ask your musical director.

Once you find a way to start the friendship, however you do it, keep your feelings calm and wait to see how he reacts. He is a normal boy and will soon begin to react to you.

Good luck! George
