What do we Talk About?Suggest AdviceDo you have some advice for this person? Visitor's Question: i have been with my girlfriend for almost 10 months now. We usually talk about how our day was mostly. i tell her about work. she tells me about her day at college. but after that we dont have much to talk about. I'm a quiet guy and my parents are quiet they dont talk much either. My girlfriend's family is quite the opposite. I always seem to be searching for something to talk about. she tells me still loves me even though i'm not good at conversation, but i think it is hurting our relationship. I've read the section on What do we talk about and i still need help. PLEASE HELP!!! Our Suggestion: To try to change how you are never works. You are naturally quiet. Lots of people are! Lots of couples are happy sitting in silence watching the sunset or watching the ocean ripples. There's no need to fill silence with chatter. In fact many people say that a healthy relationship is one where you are comfortable just BEING together, where you do NOT feel uncomfortable with silence. It's usually the "new dates" that feel they have to keep talking and talking on a date, because they have to say something. It's the "happy married couples" that can eat in peaceful silence, because they have no need to chatter. I would be happy with the silence. Give her a back rub. Lean your head on her shoulder. Watch a movie together. Being an couple is about being totally comfortable with each other. It's not about being nervous and trying to "fill in the gaps" to hide that. If you really MUST talk for some reason, read CNN.com in the morning and find a story that interests you, and then talk to her about it. --Your Friendly Advisors at RomanceClass.com
