I Need a Girlfriend

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
In my school, there is some special banquet, and my friend convinced me of asking another friend out to this banquet. There are also days in which I feel like I NEED a girlfriend
and I am not sure if I should begin to like this girl or not. She is a really cool person, but should I go ahead and tell her that I like her or not? Also, before I asked her, I told my friend that convinced me, that I didn't want her to think that I liked her. So he told her, and now I guess we're just friends, but my head+heart want something called love!!! Should I or should I not, and if yes, then what should I do???? Please help me out...

Our Suggestion:
Well first, you should certainly go with her and have fun.

As far as wanting to be in love / have a girlfriend and therefore choosing her because she's convenient even though you didn't feel in love with her, that's a bit different! You can't make yourself love someone, and you shouldn't ever date someone just because it's better than being alone. That's like marrying some random person because you don't want to be single. There are always people out there that you WOULD really want to be with, so to settle for someone that's just a 'space filler' is really cheating yourself.

On the other hand, you might be looking for a TV-romance-love, and overlooking the perfectly wonderful girls that you do know. All great loves begin with great friends. All great romances are between two people that are great friends. So if you have someone that you can really get along with, count yourself lucky! Work on that friendship, really get to be comfortable with that person. If you really enjoy being with them a lot, and spending time with them, then isn't that the core meaning of being girlfriend/boyfriend?

People change their looks hourly, their weight weekly, their hobbies monthly. None of those are really important. But if you're really good friends with someone, *that* is what's key to being great partners. Good luck!
