Getting Rid of an Annoying Ex

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Me and my girlfriend have been dating for 3 months now, and my ex has been trying to break us up since the first day we started going out.

What should I tell her to stop her harassing us?

Our Suggestion:
This is always tough because on one hand you don't want to be mean to your ex. But on the other hand your priority now is your new relationship and she is damaging it.

As harsh as this sounds, there is a point in life when you have to stand up for what is important to you. If your ex cared about you at all she would want you to be happy WHEREEVER you were - including with your current girlfriend. Your ex instead is being selfish and wants to harm your happiness. So this ex is not someone who you can continue to coddle.

The next time she tries to cause trouble, just cut her short. Tell her to be mature or be cut off. Period. The end. If she continues, walk away. If she calls, get caller ID and don't pick up. If she shows up, don't open the door. Either she is mature about this or she won't get a response. She might throw a fit for a few days but people like that thrive on attention. If she isn't getting any attention from you after a while she'll find a new target for her childish behavior.

In a way it sounds harsh, but she is the one who has brought it to this. If she was acting maturely, you guys could still be friends. If she is going to act like a 3 year old child, she is going to be treated like one.
