Visitor's Question:
One of my best friends turned her back on me. I would do anything for her. People would always tell her that I talked behind her back, which was never true. They always hated the fact that we were always together. Few months ago, there were 3 sisters that started at our school. She became friends with them. Later on, she didn’t talk to me as much, she said I said something about her to those 3 sisters. I didn’t do anything. She called me couple of times, and we talked for a while. She was telling me that those girls are trying to get into our friendship but that would not happen. We went back to school the next day, my best friend and I just ignored the girls because we thought we knew what they were all about. The next week, my best friend and the girls got into a BIG fight. They stopped talking to each other, I stopped talking to the girls for good this time b/c they fought her. I didn’t want nothing to do with them anymore. Then a week later, they came back to school, the girl I thought was my best friend became good friends with the 3 sisters she got in to the fight with. Why did she turn out to be a back-stabber? Now, I lost my best friend and those 3 girls I stopped talking to just because they fought my friend. I am afraid of making friends now because I think they just might turn out to be like the friend I used to have that turned her back on me. Please help me! I don’t know why she would stop talking to me and talk to some girls that beat her up. Is she scared of the girls?

Our Suggestion:
People can be so fickle and unpredictable. I don't know why your best friend would be so mean and petty. If she were truly your friend, she would care about your feelings and be there for you. Instead it sounds like she's flaking out and causing all sorts of trouble not out of intent, but just because she's not caring what the results are.

I suggest that you back off from the friendship until your friend figures out what she really does want. If she wants to hang with those mean girls, then that's her choice, but you don't have to put yourself into the middle of it and get hurt by it all.

I wish you the best,
