Visitor's Question:
My boyfriend and I have been living together for three years. We moved in together after dating about three weeks. Under the circumstances at the time, it was what needed to happen. Now, however, I am having a hard time accepting that there was a whole early phase that our relationship never went through. We are very committed to each other and have worked through many problems over the course of our three years together. Regardless, did moving in together too soon cause us to miss something vital to the success of a long term relationship?

Our Suggestion:
Hi,

Moving in when you did did cause you to miss a "whole early phase that our relationship never went through." But that's not terrible. First off, since you are committed now, you know the relationship isn't in jeapardy.

I would recommend setting aside Fri. or Sat. nite as a date nite and do as much as you can as if you were dating before moving in. It'll make things fun and you can catch up on stuff.

Don't be afraid to take long weekends together or spend the day at the beach or something like that, either.

You can rekindle those early days with a little effort.

Best wishes,
Marc
