Visitor's Question:
I sent a question in before about my boyfriend's moody issues and thank you for the email back. But something else has happened! He's been grounded for awhile, but for awhile, his parents went light on the punishment (like letting us hang out sometimes and talking on the phone) but last night, his parents were completely unfair about the punishment and took everything they were giving to us, away. Now, I understand that things will get better, but we were talking last night and out of nowhere he says, "I'm running away in three weeks" So I said, after about 30min, "is it too much to ask you to stay?" and he said, "You dont want to come with me, I know that, and I cant and I dont want to change that. But I'm leaving and and one of my friends are coming with me" What should I do? I dont want him to run away. How do I get him to stay?

Our Suggestion:
How old is he?

If he is over 18 he has every right to leave his house and do as he pleases in life. If he is under 18 then he is under the domain of his parents and pretty much has to do what they say.

I think the next time you talk to him he will be less strongly inclined to runaway. It takes a lot of money to live alone and strength.

If he still wants to runaway, ask him how much money he has saved up, where will he live, where will he work? If he has only vague answers then you should worry about him and his friend. Tell him you will be waiting for him and that you don't want him to go. Tell him how much it will hurt his family and you and his friends and relatives. It would interfere will his school career and could take years to recover from.

Do the right thing and try to talk him out of it. It will only be a sad, sad story in his life history.

Good luck!
George
