Visitor's Question:
My wife and I have been together for 16 years, lived together for 7, married for 3. About 6 years ago a rumour surfaced that she had cheated on me with a good friend of mine. They both denied it and I believed them. But he kept calling (which was normal but didn't feel right) and after a while I just didn't believe them anymore. I confronted her about this over and over again but she always re-assured me that it didn't happen. Before we got married I asked her if there's anything I should know, let's start with a clean slate. She still didn't tell me. She finally broke down last week and told me it had happened over a 4 month period 6 years ago and I am completely devastated. We have been very happy lately but I resent her for this, I never cheated on her and was faithful throughout my 20s which was tough and which is all I wanted in return. What can I do?

Our Suggestion:
If you don't think you can forgive her, seek professional marriage counseling with her. That should help quite a bit.

There are few things more devastating than marital infidelity even if it happened so long ago. That and she lied so much about it, presumably out of shame and fear of losing you.

I am sorry for your situation!
