is it wise to propose without living with a person first?Suggest AdviceDo you have some advice for this person? Visitor's Question: I am starting to feel that I may want to ask my girlfriend to marry me. My problem is that I share a home with my brother that we are remodeling to sell(try to sell) in approximately 6-8 months. I know she wants me to take the next step of commitment, a.k.a. engagement ring, but is it fair to her to ask her now, knowing we could not possibly live together for at least another 6-8 months(she understands that this is not an option)? Also, although I'm 36 and think I know most everything about women(lol), is it wise to propose without living with a person first? We've been dating 9 months and she seems great, but I still enjoy time alone. So, is it politically correct in today's society to propose knowing there will be a minimum 8 months before not just marriage, but cohabitation? Our Suggestion: Cohabitation before marriage is a good idea in my opinion. You get to know each other better (you have only been dating 9 months). Regarding your proposal... that's your choice. I would recommend that you make the wedding date at least a year from now. This will give you 4-6 months to live together and see how that works. It is quite normal to have a year's engagement. Be careful to find out what her feelings are before making any decisions. Good luck! George --Your Friendly Advisors at RomanceClass.com
