Flirting at work

Visitor's Question:
I started a new job about 4 months ago and a female coworker of mine and I hit it off really well and I am crushing on her bad. We seldom talk or see each other outside of work, however when we are at work we are virtually inseperable. We have gone to lunch together numerous times, we talk about anything but work when we are alone, and we catch each other glaring at each other. Most of the stuff we talk about is on a very personal level and we tend to confide within each other. The problem is that she recently left a boyfriend and got a new one almost as fast, with both of them living about 2 hours away (which is where she is from). She keeps saying that she wants to find a boyfriend in the area that we are in, but she keeps falling for "those roughnecks" from where she is originally from.

She got transferred to another bureau within the company because of our business (engineering) we move from job to job quite a bit. However I got to see her again this past week at a Christmas luncheon and it was like we were never apart from each other and she was flirting a bit with me (to the point of touching my head). I feel it is pretty obvious that she likes me due to the fact that we talk about non-work things all the time, but I am wondering if she likes me as more than a friend (like I do with her)? Some of her actions tell me yes (like the flirting and the confiding), but the boyfriend 2 hours away and the fact that we seldom talk outside of work tell me something else. Can you clarify any of this for me?

Our Suggestion:
Yes it sounds like she likes you as more than a friend. But that's always an iffy thing to figure out.

Since she wants a local boyfriend why not ask her out for dinner? If she accepts you will be a step ahead, and if she refuses then you will better understand where you stand with her. My guess is that she will say yes.

Good luck! George
