While Ann Landers says that a guy shouldnīt force the girl to return the ring, a few statesī Supreme Courts point out that the ring isnīt just a random gift. Itīs part of a promise the guy makes to marry the girl. The girl chooses to accept or reject the ring, and if the girl chooses to accept it, she is agreeing to the contract of marriage. If either one then breaks the contract, the ring goes back to the owner, i.e., the guy.
I would *especially* feel this is true if the ring is any sort of family heirloom.
