Love and Romance in France @ RomanceClass:
A French Wedding Cake

Back in the middle ages, guests would all bring spiced cakes as a treat to the wedding. In essence the entire village would bake to help celebrate the marriage. The cakes would all be piled together, and then the bride and groom would have to see if they could kiss over the top of it.

When King Charles II married, the mound was so huge that the chefs added icing to stick it together, so that it wouldn't fall. This is where the single wedding cake idea sprang from.
